Wayne D. Prather, 84, of Garber, Oklahoma was the son of Walter Scott and Marie Venus Hawk Prather. He was born May 31, 1923 in Hugoton, Kansas and died Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at the Living Center in Enid, Oklahoma. Wayne and Edith Allen were married on May 16, 1954 in Dumas, Texas. He was a diesel mechanic and superintendent who worked for Parker Drilling in Kenya, Africa, Singapore, China and New Zealand and other areas of the world. Wayne was a member of the First Baptist Church in Garber where he was a Sunday School teacher, a member of the choir and a fill-in song leader. He enjoyed playing his guitar and harmonica, horseback riding and visiting. Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 3, 2008 at the First Baptist Church in Garber, Oklahoma. Pastor Tom LeGrand will officiate. Interment will be in the Garber Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Dugger Funeral Home of Garber. Wayne is survived by four sons, Larry Prather, of Kansas City, Missouri, Stuart Prather, of Denver, Colorado and Carl Carpenter and Dewayne Carpenter, both of Texas; one brother, Walter Scott Prather, of Woodward, Oklahoma; two sisters, Daisy Pate, of Hugoton, Kansas and Venus Marie Easley, of Enid, Oklahoma; 12 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and special caregiver and friend Debra Medlin. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Edith Prather; three sisters, Geneva Holder, Fern Pate and Irene Holt; and two brothers, Cleo Prather and Alfred Prather.
