Verlin Duane Winters, 76, of Perry, Oklahoma was born to Jonah Joe and Thelma Bozell Winters. He was born on May 29, 1934 in Okeene, Oklahoma and went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at his home. Verlin married Judy A.Givens Maehs on November 19, 1979 in Gainesville, Texas. He attended Bethany High School and graduated from barbering school. Verlin served his country in the United States Army, where he served during the Korean War. Verlin was a self employed barber for 56 years and loved golf, bowling and sports. He was an elder of the First Christian Church of Perry, Oklahoma, where he found spiritual nurturing for his faith that helped him through his long battle with cancer. It may have taken his life, but never took his spirit. His strength inspired those who knew him and he never complained about his pain. Throughout it all he stayed positive and never gave up. His determination was inspirational and his support system and family came together to help with his journey. He is now made whole by his faith in his Savior and lives for eternity in Gods glorious Kingdom. Verlin will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather greatgrandfather and brother. He will be missed by all of those who really knew and loved him. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at the First Christian Church with Rev. Martin Foster officiating. Interment will be in Grace Hill Cemetery. Services are under the direction of BrownDugger Funeral Home, Perry, Oklahoma. The family will be receiving friends from 6:008:00 p.m. Monday, May 23, 2011 at BrownDugger Funeral Home. Verlin leaves behind his wife of 32 years Judy, one daughter Terri Bridges and her husband Leroy of Kansas City, Missouri one son Scott Winters and his wife Cindy of Alma, Arkansas One stepson Joe Maehs and his wife Ramona of Morrison, Oklahoma one adopted daughter Tonya Carroll and her husband Michael of Bonaire, Georgia two brothers, Royce Winters and his wife Joann of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Dennis Winters and his wife Teri of Houston, Texas one sister Sheryl Bishop and her husband Don of Clinton, Oklahoma. twelve grandchildren, and three great grandchildren and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
