Verlin Stanley

April 8, 1934 — January 10, 2005

Verlin Lee Stanley was the son of Don E. and Cora Lea Woodard Stanley. He was born April 8, 1934 in Perry, Oklahoma and died Monday, January 10, 2005 at Perry Memorial Hospital in Perry, Oklahoma. Verlin attended Perry schools. In 1952, he joined the National Guard 95th Regiment. He was in the United States Marines from 1954-1957, 20 months of which were served in Japan. He worked for the City of Perry for five years, Charles Machine Works for eight years and was self-employed as a mechanic and welder until he retired in 1986. He and Etta Louise Warner were married in July, 1957. They had three children. In October, 1987, he and Jo Ann Wagner Avants were married. Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 15, 2005 in the chapel of Brown-Dugger Funeral Home. Rev. Roger Dunn will officiate. Services are under the direction of Brown-Dugger Funeral Home of Perry, Oklahoma. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of Brown-Dugger Funeral Home. He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann, of the home; three children, Terry Ronald Stanley, of Covington, Oklahoma, LeEtta Lynn Tilson, of Hays, Kansas, and LaRhonda Faith Elliott, of Orlando, Oklahoma; four step-children, Jonathan Lee Garrett and his wife, Angie, of Madill, Oklahoma, TSgt. Robert James Garrett and his wife, Lori, of Wichita Falls, Texas, Patrick Wayne Garrett, of Madill, Oklahoma, and MSgt. Bruce Eugene Avants and his wife, Lisa, of Mary Esther, Florida; nine grandchildren, Cassie Dawn Kitterman, of Perry, Oklahoma, Santana and Donavan Elliott, of Orlando, Oklahoma, Tesla and Samantha Garrett, of Madill, Oklahoma, Austin, Gage and Summer Avants, of Mary Ester, Florida, and Kyle Garrett, of Abilene, Texas; four great-grandchildren, two sisters, Hazel Johannes, of Moore, Oklahoma, and Lucille Harris, of Perry, Oklahoma; and several nieces and nephews. His parents, one sister, Allie Marie Wheeler, and two brothers, Don Junior Stanley and Merlin Dee Stanley, preceded him in death.
