Thelma Witter Friend, 86, formerly of Perry, Oklahoma, was born on September 4, 1923 in Perry, Oklahoma to Floyd Elmer and Lydia Lillian Meads Witter. She passed away on February 28, 2010 at Quail Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Thelma attended Lucien schools and married Vern L. Friend on September 16, 1944 in Perry, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on July 21, 2001. Thelma was a longtime member of the First Christian Church of Perry and a member of the Ladies of 76 Club. Through her home day care and the youth she led through Vacation Bible School, Chi Rho and CYF Groups of First Christian Church, she had an impact on many young lives. Thelma loved baking, making jelly and sharing her baked goods especially cinnamon rolls with family and friends. She and Vern enjoyed wood crafts and her family will treasure the wood items that were made for them throughout the years. She also enjoyed sewing, had a green thumb for gardening and loved feeding and watching birds, especially humming birds. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother and greatgreat grandmother. There was nothing she was more proud of than her family. A celebration of life will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 6, 2010 at the First Christian Church. Rev. Martin Foster will officiate. Services are under the direction of BrownDugger Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church in care of BrownDugger Funeral Home, 1010 N. 7th Street, Perry, Oklahoma 73077. Thelma is survived by her four daughters and their spouses, Constance and Jerry McVay of Eufaula, Oklahoma, Verna and Kenneth Frank of Perry, Oklahoma, Beverly and Philip Lloyd of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Teresa and Ron Voise of Edmond, Oklahoma ten grandchildren, Jamee and Dale Mortenson of Great Falls, Montana, Pamela and Vance Smith of Littleton, Colorado, Kenneth Todd and Lisa Frank and Denise and Bryan Hall, all of Perry, Oklahoma, Travis and Kayla Lloyd of Mustang, Oklahoma, Tim and Gretchan Lloyd of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Tricia and Eric Ivins of Evans, Georgia, Tamra and Jonathan Jennings of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Sheila Voise and Anthony Stovall of Edmond, Oklahoma and Nathan and Regan Voise of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma twentyone greatgrandchildren, Tyler, Hayley and Kylie Mortenson, all of Great Falls, Montana, Josh Gorby of Littleton, Colorado, Amanda McVay and Eric Luchene, both of Valparaiso, Indiana, Paige and Ragen Frank and Alyssa and Caden Hall, all of Perry, Oklahoma, Tyler and Kenidee Lloyd, both of Mustang, Oklahoma, Prudence and Piper Lloyd, both of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Harrison and Griffen Ivins, both of Evans, Georgia, Zachary and Sarah Jennings, both of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Pierce Voise, Boston, Ashton and Kiley Stovall, all of Edmond, Oklahoma one greatgreat grandson, Jackson Luchene of Valparaiso, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Vern L. Friend, her parents, five brothers and three sisters.
