Sylvan Koch, 84, was born July 19, 1920, on a farm near Orlando, Oklahoma. His parents were Harry Earl Koch and Bertha Mae Cawood Koch. Sylvan lived all of his life in the Potter Community in SE Garfield County within one mile of the farm where he was born. He attended school at Stanton, Potter, and Hayward. Sylvan graduated from Hayward High School in 1938. He married Alice Marie Caudle on March 22, 1941, in Enid, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on January 15, 1992. He attended Potter Community Church and in later years attended Calvary Baptist Church. Sylvan worked as a plumber for Dotts Hardware in Perry for many years and farmed full time. He had retired from plumbing but was still farming at the time of his death. In his spare time, he visited nursing home residents and shut-ins. He enjoyed sharing his smile, good humor, and fruits and vegetables with his friends. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 5, 2004 at Calvary Baptist Church in Perry, Oklahoma. Rev. Charles Luster and Rev. Roger Dunn will officiate. Interment will be in Grace Hill Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Brown-Dugger Funeral Home. There will be a family visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, October 4, 2004 at Brown-Dugger Funeral Home in Perry, Oklahoma. Memorials may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church Nursing Home Ministry Fund. He is survived by one daughter, DeAnn Hafner and her husband, Johnny of Orlando, Oklahoma; two sons, Gary Koch and his wife, Gloria, of Orlando, Oklahoma; and J.D. Koch and his wife, Barb, of Perry, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren, Brian Hafner of Tokyo, Japan; Valerie McDougald and her husband, Jim, of Friant, California; Greg Koch and his wife, Jaye, of Mt. Olive, North Carolina; Genelle Guidry of Denham Springs, Louisiana; Geoff Koch and his wife, Keri, of Perry, Oklahoma; Gina Hayley and her husband, Trevor, of Bethel, Oklahoma; Angela Koch of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and Jay Koch of Perry, Oklahoma; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bonnie Roberts of Enid, Oklahoma; and Ruby Kirchner of Stillwater, Oklahoma; two sisters-in-law, Alma Betchan of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Iva Caudle of Owassa, Oklahoma; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
