Ruby Belle McNeal Gleason, 96, passed away May 7, 2016 at her home. She was surrounded by relatives and close friends.
Ruby was born to Hugh and Rosie Anson McNeal southwest of Perry. After graduation from Hayward High School she helped several families with home duties and Bond Bread Bakery in Enid.
Her marriage to Argyle Gleason, June 28, 1941 Took her to Military life on the west coast. During World War 2, Argyle was stationed overseas. Ruby remained stateside and worked at a defense factory. After Argyles discharge they moved to the farm southwest of Perry where she was involved in their endeavors.
Ruby was a woman of many hobbies. Quilting and fishing topped her enjoyment besides; woodworking, wallpapering, upholstery, ceramics, crochet, knitting and dancing. Everyone always felt welcome to stop by for a cup of coffee and homemade cinnamon rolls.
Ruby was active in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Alter Society, Whipple Ladies Aide and Senior Citizens.
Those left to carry on her memory are son Tom Gleason, Sister-in-law Ethel McNeal, numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters: Goldie Tolsdorf, Nellie (Sis) Holland, Lena Steiner. Brother: Ellsworth (Bud) McNeal, Glenn McNeal and Jasper (Jap) McNeal.
Services under direction of Brown-Dugger Funeral Home will be held at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Wednesday May 11, 2016 at 10:00am. Visitation at the funeral home will be 6-8pm May 10 and Rosary, May 10 at 7:00 pm.
The family suggest memorials be made to Companion Healthcare.
