Roy A. Oldehoeft, 82, formerly of Perry, Oklahoma, was the son of Walter and Elsie Riggert Oldehoeft. He was born October 18, 1930 in Seward, Nebraska and died Friday, February 8, 2013. He married his best friend and sweetheart Mary Jean Beadle. After the untimely and early death of Mary Jean, Roy married Barbara DeBoer. Roy and Barbara celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 2011. Roy received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Oklahoma A and M and a Masters Degree in Mathematics from The Colorado College through a grant from the National Science Foundation. He did additional graduate work at the University of Colorado. In 1959, he became a member of the Colorado Springs community where he taught mathematics and served as mathematics department chairman at West Jr. High and Holmes Jr. High for thirty years. He was a member of the Holmes Jr. High staff in 19841985 when the school received the Excellence in Education Award from the U. S. Department of Education in Washington, D.C. He served on many school and District 11 committees and was a life member of Colorado Education Association and National Education Association and served as treasurer in the original Colorado Springs Teachers Association. In 1987 he was honored with the Outstanding Colorado Teaching Excellence Award as a result of nominations by parents, students, friends, and colleagues. His philosophy in both the education and funeral directing field was evident in his total caring for the success of the students he taught and the welfare of the families he served as funeral director. He earned his Funeral Director License through Parker Funeral Home in Perry, Oklahoma and the State of Oklahoma. This all in spite of having to deal with the challenges of health most of his life. Roys father, Walter Oldehoeft, served as principal and teacher at Christ Lutheran School in the 1950s. Having grown up amidst family and relatives of Lutheran teachers and pastors, Roys background experience enabled him to assist in the planting, development, and growth of Rock of Ages Lutheran Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado and also served on the building committee of the present church in Colorado Springs. During his fifty four year membership at Rock of Ages, Roy served in most elective offices. Graveside services will be 9:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at Grace Hill Cemetery in Perry, Oklahoma. Rev. William Metz will officiate. Services are under the direction of BrownDugger Funeral Home in Perry, Oklahoma. Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, February 18, 2013 at BrownDugger Funeral Home in Perry, Oklahoma. Roy is survived by his wife, Barbara of the home two daughters, Staci Christensen and her husband, Curt of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Kari Mandell and her husband, Mark of Highlands Ranch, Colorado two grandchildren, Jack and Morgan Mandell of Highlands Ranch, Colorado three brothers, Wilfred Oldehoeft and his wife, Ruby of Hutchinson, Kansas, Arthur Oldehoeft and his wife, Margie of Ames, Iowa, Rodney Oldehoeft of Santa Fe, New Mexico one sister, Elaine Van Valkenburg and her husband, Robert of Lincoln, Nebraska. He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Elsie Oldehoeft sister Mildred Ehlrich and his first wife Mary Jean Beadle Oldehoeft.
