Robert Bob Dale Neely 67, formerly of Perry, died Monday, November 17, 2008 at his home in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Bob was born in a farmhouse in Glencoe, Oklahoma on July 30, 1941 to Dale and Marie Neely. He was reared in Ponca City where in high school he met his partner in life Janice Franklin. They were married on January 6, 1961 in Ponca City. Bob served his country in the United States Navy from 1959-1962. He joined the Oklahoma Highway Patrol in 1966 and spent the next twenty years as a state trooper, advancing to the rank of lieutenant before his retirement. His time with the highway patrol brought him and his family to Perry in December 1973. After retiring from the state patrol, Neely began his third career as a safety risk manager for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation. He retired from there in July 2003. Neely's dream for his retirement years was to explore the United States with wife Janice. From April through December of 2005, he was living his dream until a diagnosis of multiple myeloma put an end to their travels. To meet his needs for medical care, he and his wife lived in the Tulsa area from December 2005 until March 2008. In March they moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he remained until his death. During his years in Perry, Neely was a member of American Legion Post 53, served on the City Council, was an avid OU fan and a committed member of First Baptist Church. The three greatest loves in his life were his Lord, his family and his country, in that order. His tremendous faith in Christ and his vibrant smile made for a one-man revival team anywhere he went. His greatest joy, up until his death, was sharing his Christ with anyone he met. Though he was faced with the adversity of illness, his eternal hope was in a risen Savior. Memorial services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 6, 2008 at the First Baptist Church in Perry. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. at Glencoe Cemetery South at Glencoe, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Brown-Dugger Funeral Home in Perry. Memorials may be made to the American Legion Post 53 or the Foundation for Multiple Myeloma Research in care of Brown-Dugger Funeral Home, 1010 North 7th Street, Perry, Oklahoma 73077. Last but not least, he is survived by a beloved constant companion, his poodle Tara. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Morris Williams. Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. 2 Corinthians 4: 16-18 Condolences may be sent to the family using our online guest book at www.brown-duggerfuneralhome.com.
