Ralph Cooney

Ralph D. Cooney, 84, of Tonkawa, was the son of Noel P. and Carrie Farguson Cooney. He was born April 4, 1921 in Braman, Oklahoma and died May 22, 2005 at Ponca City, Oklahoma. At an early age his family moved to rural area Eddy, Oklahoma where he went to school in Carlisle and Valley Center rural schools. Ralph married Delores Stratton July 19, 1941 in Newkirk, Oklahoma. He worked for Conoco; was a farmer south of Lamont then they moved south of Tonkawa and worked as a carpenter and farm laborer. They moved to Wichita, Kansas in 1954 and he worked for Groendyke Transfer Company as a mechanic and carpenter for 35 years then he retired and moved back to Tonkawa. Ralph was a member of the Catholic Church. He loved to go camping, fishing and dancing. Ralph had a great love for his family. A Memorial Service is set for 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 26, 2005 at the Dugger Funeral Home Chapel in Tonkawa, Oklahoma. Deacon Richard Robinson will officiate. Arrangements are under the directions of Dugger Funeral Home Tonkawa, Oklahoma. Memorials may be made to the St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Tonkawa in care of Dugger Funeral Home, 400 East Grand, Tonkawa, Oklahoma, 74653. He is survived by his wife Delores of the home; his son, John Ralph Cooney of Vian, Oklahoma; his daughter, Alberta Ann Sandborn of Wichita, Kansas; his brothers, Donald Ray Cooney of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Noel Jr. P. Cooney of Sugarland, Texas; his sisters, Nadine Holle of Branson, Missouri and Laura Coopersmith of Wichita, Kansas; his grandchildren, John, Jarett, and Patrick Cooney, Amy Jenkins, Earl Po Cooney, Michael and Rhiannon Sandborn; and have been blessed with several great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Richard Dean Cooney; and a grandson, Bo Cooney. Condolences may be sent to the family using our online guest book at www.duggerfuneralhome.com.
