Nancy Porter

February 9, 1949 — November 1, 2023

Nancy Porter, 74, of Tryon, OK, passed away on 11/1/23, after suffering a minor stroke in mid-July and a major stroke on the last day of July, 2023.

Nancy was born in Island Pond, VT and raised in Terryville, CT, graduating from Terryville High School. For most of her working years, she was a Quality Control Inspector at several different manufacturing firms in Bristol and Plainville CT.

Nancy loved the ocean and some of her favorite times were spent on the ferry traveling from New London, CT to Block Island, RI. She spent many years living in Florida. For her last few years there, she worked as a loving caregiver for a quadriplegic gentleman, Kenneth Gammon, in her favorite Florida town of Fort Meyers Beach. Nancy adopted Ken's dog, Bennie, upon Ken's passing and then returned to live in CT. Shortly after her father's passing in 2005, she found a house in Oklahoma and made it her home for the next 18 years.

Nancy so loved ALL animals, especially dogs. If we are reunited with our pets in Heaven, then she is surely surrounded with love by at least 40 dogs and cats! She had a pet tree frog, Henri, who would sit with her for hours on her computer desk every day, and she entertained him with videos of flies on the screen. Henri went crazy trying to catch them! Surely he misses her now.

Nancy had a difficult life at times, but she found joy in the small things, and she never gave up, always having great faith in our sweet Lord, Jesus and His Holy Mother, Mary. At times in her life, she experienced homelessness, but was always kind and generous to others, freely sharing what little she had with those in need.

Nancy was predeceased by her parents, Noella Sweeney, of Sarasota, FL, and her father, Bruce Porter of Bristol, CT. She is survived by her sisters, Jean Fox of Homosassa, FL, Rose LeClair of Burlington, CT and Susan Hayward of Torrington, CT, along with her nephews, Raymond Gauthier of Bristol CT, David LeClair of Grafton, MA, Steven LeClair of Granby, CT, Shawn Malino of Barkhamsted, CT and a niece, Jeanette Varnum of Bristol, CT.

Special thanks go to the staffs of Stillwater Medical Center and Perry Green Valley Nursing Home in Perry, OK, for their loving care and kindness. Special thanks also go to Nancy's friends, Katherine Cantrell of Stillwater and Willie Bates of Tryon for their friendship, help, and kindness.

No services are planned, but in remembrance of Nancy, please extend an act of kindness or companionship to someone who could use it!
