Melvin Kimmell

Melvin E. Kimmell, 60 of Garber passed away on Tuesday morning, January 24, 2017 at the OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City. He is the son of Ansil and Opal (Spillman) Kimmell born in Enid, Oklahoma on January 29, 1956.

Melvin was a lifetime resident and supporter of the Garber community serving as local manager of the Pioneer Telephone Company in Garber for 30 years; after which, he worked for a number of years as a locator for SandRidge Energy. He was often seen at many community events in the Garber area particularly sporting or FFA events. He was a graduate of Northwestern University where he earned his bachelor's degree. He was a proud member of the Noble County Merchants Softball team and an avid supporter of OU Sooner football. Melvin loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting/fishing with family and friends. He was a special man to his three daughters and enjoyed helping them with their show animals and with their sporting activities. Melvin married his sweetheart, Cathy Coker and last September 10th celebrated together 33 years of marriage. He was a member along with her at the Antelope Valley Church of the Brethren.

Melvin is survived by his wife, Cathy. His three daughters; Kourtney Schmidt and husband, Lucas of Corn, OK; Keli Robbins and husband, Jonathan of Perry, OK; Krista Kimmell and fiancé, Daniel Adams of Garber, OK. Grandchildren; Ellie and Liam Schmidt and Maverick Robbins. His parents; Ansil and Opal Kimmell of Covington, OK. A sister; Linda M. Ross and husband, David of Broken Arrow, OK. One brother; Darryl Kimmell and wife, Mara Jo of Pond Creek, OK. Numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Services for Melvin Kimmell will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the Garber High School Gymnasium with Pastor Kelly Cronkhite officiating. Friends may call at the gym one hour prior to service time. Those desiring to make a memorial contribution in Melvin's name may do so to the Antelope Valley Church of the Brethren, Garber FFA or the Garber Sports Booster Club.
