Mary Durkee

Mary Ellen Durkee was born March 24, 1921 in Newton, Kansas to Mayberry and Nellie Clair Halsey Holt. She passed away Thursday, November 6, 2014 in Enid, Oklahoma at the age of 93 years old.

On February 5, 1938, Mary Ellen Holt was united in marriage to the late George Burton Durkee in Shawnee, Oklahoma and to this union five children were born, Duane, Marilyn, Bruce, Karen, and Mary Jane. Mary was a member of the Christian Church in Billings, Oklahoma. She was very active in her community, serving as the secretary for the Union Cemetery, President of the American Legion Auxiliary, Secretary of the Billings Mum Club, and treasurer of the CWF. Mary Ellen also was a volunteer with the 4H and FFA, a member of the Billings Chamber of Commerce and Stage coach theater in Perry. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, quilting, and doing crafts. Mary loved living on the farm and being with her family.

Mary is survived by five children, Duane Durkee and his wife, Cecilia, Marilyn Waltermire and her husband, Fred, Bruce Durkee and his wife, Karen, Karen Culp and her husband, Richard, and Mary Jane Kendall and her husband, Gary three sistersin law, Barbara Holt, Louise Foraker, and Faye Davis 26 grandchildren and 31 greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents her husband several brothers and sisters and one greatgrandson, Jason Scott Waltermire.

Funeral services will be 3pm, Sunday, November 9, 2014 at the Christian Church in Billings, Oklahoma with Frank Tepe officiating. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery.
