Margaret Buchanan

Margaret Ellen Buchanan was born August 10, 1921 at Perry, Oklahoma to George and Mary (Austin) Samuel. She passed away May 25, 2016 at Perry Green Valley Nursing Home at the age of 94. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and Brother Herbert Samuel. Services will be at the Brown-Dugger Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 31, 2016. Burial will follow at Grace Hill Cemetery, Perry, Oklahoma.

Margaret graduated from Chickasha High School in 1938 and attended Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha. She was employed as a Medical Transcriptionist at Borden General Hospital in Chickasha and later at San Francisco and at Perry. She also worked at the ASCS office in Perry. Margaret had a life-long interest in art and music and especially enjoyed playing the piano and oil painting. She was an active member of the Noble County Artists Association and taught oil painting classes to many residents of Perry. A major influence throughout her life was the desire to follow Jesus Christ, which she expressed from the age of 15.

Margaret married Thomas Jackson Buchanan on July 15, 1946 and they established a home in Chickasha before moving to a farm southeast of Perry in 1952. They lived in various homes in and around Perry, eventually settling on the farm five miles west of Perry where Margaret was born. It was at this farm that Jack and Margaret enjoyed hosting an annual Christian convention, a tradition which Margaret's parents had begun in 1942 and which continues to this day.

Margaret is survived by son George Edward Buchanan and wife Mary of Oklahoma City, son Glen Roger Buchanan and wife Judy of Perry, and daughter Sharon Elizabeth Morgan and husband Wayne of Owasso, Oklahoma, ten grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
