Leona Alma Stahl, of Perry, Oklahoma, was the daughter of William Lafayette and Della Ann Honeycutt Jones. She was born May 16, 1915 in Birch Tree, Missouri, and passed from this life on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Green Valley Nursing Home in Perry, Oklahoma. Leona came to Perry from Mountain View, Missouri with her parents in 1924. She and Albert Stahl were married on July 21, 1945 in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Albert preceded her in death on November 10, 1962. His untimely death left Leona as a single mother of their thirteen year old son, Gary Arnold Stahl. She worked very hard to raise and nurture him into a young man. Leona had many interests which included gardening, growing flowers, fishing and enjoying nature. However, her true passion was found in her generosity to veterans in her community as well as others. Her work with veterans began in Table Grove, Illinois, when she started altering uniforms for the U.S. Army. Veterans were very dear to her heart. For many years, Leona gathered clothing and other needed items for donations to the VA center in Norman, Oklahoma. She made Christmas stockings, lab robes, slippers and arm chair bags and donated them to the VA Center. Leona also made patriotic pillows for families of local deceased veterans. Over the years, she made hundreds of Christmas stockings for the Noble County DHS Christmas Store for distribution to local children. Leona worked as a cook at several Perry restaurants including 89ers, Sonic and Jersey Queen.She was a member of the Ellis Jirous American Legion Auxiliary and the RSVPRetired and Senior Volunteer Program organization. She attended Kaw Street Chapel in Perry, Oklahoma. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at the BrownDugger Funeral Home Chapel in Perry, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of BrownDugger Funeral Home in Perry, Oklahoma. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donors choice in care of BrownDugger Funeral Home, 1010 N. 7th Perry, Oklahoma 73077. She is survived by nieces, Patricia Wayman of Enid, Oklahoma, Sharon Parker of Norman, Oklahoma, Donna Kay Whisenhunt of Seminole, Oklahoma, Betty Rudd of Tonkawa, Oklahoma and Lois Shaw of McAlester, Oklahoma nephews, Jim LitterellJean and Jerry LitterellColeen, both of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and L.E. Williams of Indiana and one granddaughter, Rebecca Stahl of Perry, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents husband, Albert son, Gary Arnold StahlSeptember 16, 2001 brothers and sisters, Edward Williams, Elbert Jones, Lennit Williams, Lenna Hanna, Lena Stoddard, Edna Litterell and Lydia McGann.
