Leon Perry Bowling, 92, formerly of Covington, Oklahoma was born to Perry Leon and Sarah Alice Hopson Bowling. He was born September 2, 1918 in Covington, Oklahoma and died Saturday, December 18, 2010 in Henryetta, Oklahoma. He married Leona Anne Decker on August 4, 1940 at the Pleasant Hill Church in Covington, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on May 29, 1998. Leon served his country in the United States Army from July 20, 1944 to August 19, 1946. He worked for the Cherokee Pipe Line for over 30 years before retiring He was a four time national winner in the Senior Olympics and was also a member of the Moose Lodge in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He started the Sure Ringers Horseshoes Club. He enjoyed playing cards, traveling with his family and John Wayne was his hero. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in Covington. Dr. Don Rogers will officiate. Interment will be in Covington Cemetery. Services are under the direction of BrownDugger Funeral Home in Perry. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association in care of BrownDugger Funeral Home, 1010 N. 7th Street, Perry, Oklahoma 73077. Leon is survived by his three sons, Walter Perry Bowling and his wife, Delores, of Glenpool, Oklahoma, Frost McClain Bowling and Timothy Lee Bowling, both of Sapulpa, Oklahoma two daughters, Nancy Gibney and her husband, Dale, and Margaret Butler, all of Sapulpa, Oklahoma seven grandchildren, David Bowling and his wife, Shea, of Glenpool, Oklahoma, Kristin Bowling of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Aaron Gibney and his wife, Jennifer, of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, Wendy Alley and her husband, Jeremy, of Talkeetna, Alaska, Wade Butler and his wife, Aleah, of Washington D.C., Will Butler of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Wyatt Butler of Sapulpa, Oklahoma thirteen greatgrandchildren and two brothers, Leroy Bowling and his wife, Barbara, of Covington, Oklahoma and Lloyd Bowling of Coyle, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his wife, Leona Anne Bowling parents, Perry Leon and Sarah Alice Bowling five sisters and two brothers.
