Denver

Laura Beers, 97, long-time resident of Perry, Oklahoma, died Sunday, October 13, 2024, in Littleton, Colorado. She was born in Wilson, Oklahoma on September 12, 1927, to parents Charles and Atra Thomas. Laura was a 1945 graduate of Classen High School in Oklahoma City. She received a bachelor’s degree in English literature from Baylor University in 1949. She continued her education at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Oklahoma City, where she received a degree in medical technology. Laura accepted the position of Laboratory Technologist at the Perry Memorial Hospital in 1953. There she met the love of her life, Fred G. Beers, who preceded her in death in 2007. Fred and Laura were married in 1954 and celebrated 53 years together.

Laura took great pride and joy in each of her family members, always cheering on their wide-range of endeavors. Daughter Susan Bieberdorf and husband John live in Littleton, Colorado. Granddaughter Amy Fleet, husband Blake and great-grandsons Fischer and Silas live in Castle Rock, Colorado and granddaughter Jill lives in Littleton, Colorado. Daughter Kathy Lindsey and husband Ron live in Olathe, Kansas. Grandson Tom Lindsey and wife Jenna, great-granddaughter Evie, and granddaughter Joanie Meyer and husband Jeff all live in Kansas City, Missouri. Laura was also beloved by her nieces and nephews and their families. Her hugs, stories, laughter and faith will be missed by all.

Laura proudly served the Perry community, often together with Fred, in many civic roles. She was a long-time member of the Perry Progress Club and a 50-year member of Chapter BH, P.E.O. She loved storytelling and participated in many of the productions of the Perry Stagecoach Theater, including Oklahoma! And Plaza Suite. Her Christian discipleship guided her life, and she was devoted to the First Presbyterian church and its members as a faithful choir member for many years. Laura had a special heart for the senior community, and helped hold a free hair styling “salon” every week for over 30 years at the Green Valley Nursing Home.

Laura is preceded in death by her husband, Fred G. Beers, parents Charles and Atra Thomas, brother and sister Fred and Charlene, and one granddaughter, Jenny Bieberdorf, as well as countless dear friends.
