Katherine Curtis

Katherine Curtis, 71, of Perry, Oklahoma, was the oldest of twelve children, born to Kurt and Dorothy Whittam Wyant. She was born on May 16, 1937 in Eden, Oklahoma and died Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at Integris Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. On July 16, 1952, Katherine married Woodrow L. Woody Curtis in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Katherine worked at Sonic during the day and attended Langston University at night until she received her Child Development Associates Degree. She taught many kids to spell and was instrumental in getting the Head Start facility built in 1988. Katherine retired from Head Start in 1993 after 35 years of service. Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 29, 2008 at the Grace Hill Memorial Pavilion in Grace Hill Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Brown-Dugger Funeral Home in Perry. Memorials may be made to the Perry United Fund Drive in care of Brown-Dugger Funeral Home, 1010 N. 7th Street, Perry, Oklahoma 73077. Katherine is survived by her husband, Woody Curtis; two sons, Allen Curtis of Enid, Oklahoma and Daryl Curtis of Perry, Oklahoma; one daughter, Kathy Kukuk of Perry, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Verlin Wyant and Ronnie Wyant, both of Glencoe, Oklahoma; five sisters, Zela Battles of Glencoe, Oklahoma, Rosie Richards of Cushing, Oklahoma, Mary McClure of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Lelia Westful of Perkins, Oklahoma and Tersa Oniel of Newton, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Kurt and Dorothy Wyant, two sister, Ruby Uptagrove and Daisy Battles and two brothers, Charles Wyant and Don Wyant.
