John Dean Nida, 86, of Perry, Oklahoma, was the son of E.V. and Anna Louise Zeller Nida. He was born on June 26, 1925 in Perry, Oklahoma and died Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at Perry Memorial Hospital. He graduated from Orlando High School in 1944 and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country during World War II by enlisting young men into the Naval Air Corp at San Francisco, California. He was honorably discharged in 1946. On April 17, 1947 John married his best friend and the love of his life Vivian Ann Bowers. John lived in the Perry area for most of his life and was among one of the first ten inductees to the Perry Hall of Fame. He was elected Noble County Assessor in 1960 and served in that capacity until 1965. After being County Assessor he went to work for Exchange Bank and Trust. He retired from the bank in 1984 but continued to serve as a director. In 1977, he was appointed as a federal land appraiser by the U.S. District Courts. John served as President of Perry Chamber of Commerce in 1966 and also served as a member of the Perry Board of Education. John was also a member of the Lions Club. He was a member of the Ellis Jirous American Legion Post for over 60 years and for 20 of those years he served as treasurer. John was a member of the First Christian Church when he served both as an elder and a deacon. He enjoyed fishing and hunting as well as dedicating his time as a volunteer for many different organizations. John will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 5, 2011 at the First Christian Church in Perry, Oklahoma. Rev. Martin Foster will officiate. Interment will be at Grace Hill Cemetery, Perry, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of BrownDugger Funeral Home. John is survived by his wife Vivian of the home three sons, Gary Nida and his wife, Vivian of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Dale Nida of Edmond, Oklahoma and Mark Nida and his wife, Jodie, of Tulsa, Oklahoma six grandchildren, Dr. Brooke Nida and Hunter Nida both of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Jessica Wright of Oak Point, Texas, Natalie Hardin of Guthrie, Oklahoma, Amanda Stein and Jon Nida of Tulsa, Oklahoma one sister Katherine Kinglesmith of Perry, Oklahoma nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by both of his parents six brothers, Ralph, Orie, Elmer, Fred, Chuck and Wayne five sisters, Laura, Mary, Erma, Eda Mae and Lucille.
