John Morris

October 14, 1937 — January 9, 2014

It took 76 years for John Morris to become the man we know as Big John. The Lord took John home January 9, 2014. He was born in Enid on Oct. 14, 1937 and raised in the GarberCovington Oil Field. He graduated from Garber High School in 1955 and then from Oklahoma State University in 1958 with an associate degree in Airconditioning and Refrigeration. He married the love of his life, Jo Bonner and quickly moved her to Fort Worth, Texas where he had employment with Convair Aircraft Manufacturing Co. After a year and a half he started his own airconditioning business in Garland, Texas. John and Jo moved back to Garber in 1963 to farm. He also worked at Chaneys in Garber and Sturdevants in Enid along with teaching at the Votech school. Within two years, John began his Morris Company specializing in heating, airconditioning and refrigeration keeping his friends and family warm all winter and cool in the summer along with a smile and helping hand wherever needed. John enjoyed participating on cattle drives, taking his own chuck wagon to feed the many cowboys along the ride. John was preceded in his death by his parents Joe and Alabama Morris of Garber. He is survived by his wife Jo Morris of 55 years two sons, Mike Morris of Garber and Mitch Morris of Atlanta, Georgia one daughter, Mindy Morris of Helena four grandchildren, John Lee Morris of Tulsa, Logan Latta of Garber, Ann Marie Morris of Camarillo, CA, and Lara Latta of Helena. He is also survived by two brothers, Louie Morris and Bill Morris of Wichita, KS. There will be a void filled by the loss of Big John, but we know the many generations of men and women that he mentored by his strength of character and heart of generosity will continue that legacy. Lord, Go with us, lead us, and guide us. Memorial Services will be 1:00 p.m., Sunday, January 12, 2014 at the Garber High School Gym with Randy Mannschreck officiating. The family has requested that everyone attending Big Johns memorial service wear casual attire. Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church or the local Red Cross in care of Dugger Funeral Home, PO Box 66, Garber, OK 73738.
