John Henry Butcher, 82, of Garber, Oklahoma was the son of Donald and Willamena Billie Cox Butcher. He was born on April 17, 1930 and died on May 26, 2012 at his residence in Garber, Oklahoma. John graduated from Garber High School in 1947. He worked for the Garber Free Press, Lamont Newspaper, Pampa Newspaper and the Enid News and Eagle from 1947 to 1971. In 1971 he went to work for the Garber Post Office and retired in 2000 as Postmaster. John married his best friend, Margie Crofford on June 24, 1949 at the Garber United Methodist Church. Margie preceded him in death on November 8, 2007. He enjoyed fishing, sports and traveling, he was an avid OU fan. John served as past president of the NAPUS and was a member of the Garber Rotary Club. He was a member of the Garber United Methodist Church in Garber, Oklahoma. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 4, 2012 at the Garber United Methodist Church Garber, Oklahoma. Pastor Linda Pope will officiate. Interment will be in Garber Cemetery Garber, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Dugger Funeral Home in Garber. Memorial contributions may be made to the Garber School Athletic Department in care of Dugger Funeral Home, PO Box 66 Garber, Oklahoma 73738. John is survived by his two sons, Kent Butcher and his wife, Sue of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Kerry Butcher and his wife, Paula one daughter, Linda King of Garber, Oklahoma two sisters, Irma Mahoney of Burton, Kansas, Vista Lett of Denison, Texas eight grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
