John Allen, 84, of Garber, Oklahoma, was the son of John L. and Frances Kimmel Allen. He was born April 24, 1920 on the family farm Southeast of Garber, Oklahoma and died Friday, February 11, 2005 at Greenbriar Skilled Nursing at Enid, Oklahoma. Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 14, 2005 at the Blackbear Cemetery. Rev. Don Johnson will officiate. Services are under the direction of Dugger Funeral Home of Garber. A family visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday, February 13, 2005 at Dugger Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of Dugger Funeral Home, Garber, Oklahoma. John was a 1938 graduate of Garber High School. He and Ruth Mitchell were married August 6, 1940 at Chandler, Oklahoma. John attended and graduated from Oklahoma A M in 1942. He completed graduate studies at Harvard University. After graduate school, he joined the United States Navy and served in the Pacific Theater. During World War II, he was stationed at Pearl Harbor where he served as Port Director. After the war, he taught vocational agriculture to returning veterans in Adair County, Oklahoma. He and Ruth lived and farmed in the Watts, Oklahoma area and moved to the Lamont area in 1954 where he farmed until 1971. He moved then moved to the Garber area and continued farming until his death. John was a member of the Lamont Masonic Lodge and the Lamont Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and antiquing. He was a member of the Lamont and Pond Creek Baptist Churches. Survivors are his wife, Ruth, two sons, Eddy Allen and his wife, Frankie, of Garber, Oklahoma, and Larry Allen and his wife, Angela, of Sacramento, California; two grandchildren, Allysa Allen, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Emily Allen, of Stillwater, Oklahoma; and two sisters, Ruth Pommitt, of Enid, Oklahoma and Tula Perel, Pawnee, Oklahoma.
