Joel Yarborough

April 19, 1916 — September 8, 2005

Joel E. Yarborough, 89, of Perry, Oklahoma was the son of Joel Elijah and Emma D. Krum Yarborough. He was born April 19, 1916 at Dill City, Oklahoma and died Thursday, September 8, 2005 at Perry Memorial Hospital. Joel was a retired engineer, pilot and farmer. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Oklahoma AM College of Engineering. He and Marcella Nelson were married at Winfield, Kansas on October 31, 1936. He served in the United States Army Air Force from 1940-45. Joel was a Mason and a member of the First United Methodist Church where he served as chairman of the Board of Trustees. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 10, 2005 at the First United Methodist Church in Perry. Rev. Ed Cook will officiate. Interment will be in Grace Hill Cemetery at Perry. Services are under the direction of Brown-Dugger Funeral Home of Perry. The family requests memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church Memorial Fund in Care of Brown-Dugger Funeral Home, 1010 N. 7th Street, Perry, OK 73077. In addition to his wife, Marcella, survivors are one daughter, Jean Ann Hartsuck and her husband, Dr. James Hartsuck, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, one brother, M. Victor Yarborough, of Duncan, Oklahoma; one sister, Patsy Cooper, of Virginia; five grandchildren, Rebecca Hulsey, of Amarillo, Texas, Dr. Mary Fleischli, of Dallas, Texas, Katie Kastner, of Austin, Texas, Ben Yarborough, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Betsy Phelps, of Massachusetts; and 12 great-grandchildren.
