James A. Megenity, 80, passed from this life on earth to be with his Lord and Savior on May 26, 2009. Born on July 28, 1928 to Jack and Ethel Megenity in Perry, OK, J.A. was modestly raised on the McCormick farm claimed by his grandfather J.S. McCormick in the Cherokee Strip Land Run of 1893. The farm his grandfather McCormick homesteaded is still in the family and J.A. lived on or near it all his life. Being an only child in this era within a rural setting taught J.A. about responsibility and work ethic, how to raise crops and livestock, and the importance of family and faith. He attended Long View School located on the McCormick homestead, Red Rock High School, and also attended Oklahoma A M College while working at the beef barn to subsidize the cost of college. J.A. met Clara Foreman, the love of his life, as a sophomore in High School. They talked at length on the bus rides to and from school, growing closer every day until J.A. asked for her hand in marriage in December 1946. She accepted and they wed on October 12, 1947. Their love for each other and farming in the Red Rock community spanned for over 60 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew J. Jack Megenity on October 6, 1992 and Ethel L. McCormick Megenity on June 11, 1978. Survivors include his wife, Clara; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Edward Root of Red Rock, Oklahoma; son and daughter-in-law, James Dale and Dianne Megenity of Ponca City, Oklahoma; grandchildren, James and Robyn Root of Rowlett, Texas; Jerry and Jessica Root and their daughter Victoria of Jenks, Oklahoma; Erin and James Jeffries and their daughter Bethany of Norman, Oklahoma; Jenna and Kyle Parish of Rockwall, Texas; Kyle and Cheyenne Megenity of Cleburne, Texas; and Janell Root of Stillwater, Oklahoma. Cousins include Richard and Ruby Greene of Perry, Oklahoma; John B. and Maxine McCormick of Richardson, Texas; James and Rosalie McCormick of Park Ridge, Illinois; Betty Close of Burbank, California; Frances Trenary of Arkansas City, Kansas; and Ann Cooper of Austin, Texas. J.A. served 27 years as a Director and SecretaryTreasurer on the Kay Electric Cooperative KEC board, and received the Oklahoma Association of Electric Cooperatives OAEC Meritorious Service Award in 2002, also serving on the Directors Association for OAEC. He served as KEC's representative on the Western Farmers board of Trustees for 16 years. J A. served on the Red Rock School Board and also held Secretary and President offices. He was a member of the Red Rock Masonic Lodge for over 50 years and served in all chairs in addition to the role of Worshipful Master for several years. He held the office of Secretary and President of the Red Rock Farmers Cooperative board and served as president for the Noble County Farm Bureau. J.A. was a devoted and active member of the Ceres Christian Church where he served as deacon, elder and chairman of the board. Services to celebrate J.A.'s life will be led by a former pastor of Ceres Christian Church, Don Horton, at the First Christian Church of Perry, Oklahoma at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday May 30, 2009. Interment will be at Grace Hill Cemetery in Perry, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Brown-Dugger Funeral Home.
