Jack Slay

Jack M Slay longtime resident of Perry, OK passed away Friday morning September 30, 2016 at Green Valley Nursing Home in Perry, OK. He was 89 years of age. Jack was born May 8, 1927 in Okemah, OK to Albert James and Letha Floyd Slay. At the age of six weeks, Jack moved with his family to Seminole, OK and this is where he grew up. Jack and his siblings were raised by his mother and stepfather, Noel Newton Edney.

Jack served briefly in the US Navy and upon his honorable discharge he went to work for King Transfer & Storage in Seminole, OK and he transferred to Perry, OK in 1955. Shortly thereafter he went to work for the Charles Machine Works, Inc., manufacturer of Ditch Witch equipment. He retired June, 1991 after 32 years of service.

Jack met Virginia Marie Wagner in Perry, OK and on July 20, 1957 they were married and made their home in Perry, OK. Jack was an avid OU fan, holding season tickets for over 55 years; and in those years only missed 2 home games until health kept him from his Sooners. Mr. Slay was also a member of the Elks Lodge and a member of the St Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Perry, OK. Jack was a very dedicated father to his children and he made sure every year the family took a summer vacation. He also enjoyed attending his children and grandchildren's sporting events.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 4th at 10:00am at St. Rose Lima Catholic Church in Perry, OK. Burial will be at St. Rose Lima catholic Cemetery in Perry. Services are under the direction of Brown-Dugger Funeral Home of Perry, OK. Family Visitations will be held at Brown-Dugger Chapel from 6-8pm Monday the 4th. Memorials can be made to Companion Hospice of Guthrie, OK and Perry Humane Society. In care of Brown-Dugger Funeral Home, 1010 N.7th. Perry, OK 73077

Survivors include: wife; Virginia of the Home, 1 Son; Steve Slay and wife Kim of Plano, TX; 4 daughters; Rhonda Catura and husband Bill, ReDonna Vaughn and husband Rick, Anita Bartlett and husband Steve, all of Perry, OK; and Kari Carr and husband Steven of Red Rock, OK. He is also survived by 1 brother; Bobby Slay and wife Opal of Dallas, TX and 1 sister; Glenda Von Alling of Seminole, OK. 12 grandchildren; Melissa and Tyson Coker, Jason and Katherine Swoboda, Brian Swoboda, Blake Baetz, Taelor Baetz, Bryce Carr, Ciara Tabbert, Alyssa Tabbert, Courtney Slay, Cooper Slay, Nicolas Bartlett, Giovanni Bartlett. 8 great grandchildren; Kaitlyn Swoboda, Jordan Swoboda, Kaylie Swoboda, Haylee Swoboda, Brendon Swoboda, Kaison Coker, Grant Coker and Melodi Bartlett and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers; James and LeRoy Slay and 2 infant brothers and 1 sister; Helen Downing; 3 step brothers, Wayne Edney, Baxter "J.R." Edney and Noel Edney Jr. and 3 step sisters Violet Jones, Wanda McKee and Pauline Cook.
