Hope Norton, 90, of Perry, Oklahoma, formerly of Sapulpa, Oklahoma was the son of George Raymond and Maggie May Russell Norton. He was born November 23, 1917 on an island in the Arkansas River near Sand Springs, Oklahoma and died Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at Perry Memorial Hospital. At age 12, he began working for Schley Sconiers at the Paramont Garage in Sapulpa. Hope was a 1936 graduate of Garfield High School and served in the CCC in California. Prior to entering military service, he worked as a car mechanic. A World War II veteran, Hope served his country in the United States Army Air Force from September 16, 1942 to December 20, 1945. He earned the rank of Sergeant before he was honorably discharged. On November 7, 1943, he and Libbie Gean Chenoweth were married at Sapulpa, Oklahoma. He worked at Sapulpa Motors before becoming an employee of American Airlines in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1951. He retired from American Airlines in 1978. Hope was a member of the Rifleman's Association and the Sapulpa Square Dancers and a life member of the Sapulpa Historical Society. He attended the Lutheran Church in Sapulpa. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 21, 2008 in the Brown-Dugger Funeral Home Chapel in Perry. Rev. Martin Foster will officiate. Interment will be in Grace Hill Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Brown-Dugger Funeral Home.
