Helene B. Franey, age 96, passed away on February 24 in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
Helene lived in Perry, Oklahoma for the past 11 years where she was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.
Helene was born on November 3, 1920, to Russell and Rita Bartlett in Santa Rita, New Mexico. She spent her early childhood there. Helene graduated from high school in Las Cruces, New Mexico, and was a graduate of New Mexico State University in Las Cruces in 1942 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Education. She married her beloved late husband, William R. Franey, in 1942 in Las Cruces.
Her husband's career required periodic transfers with Amoco Production Company to various cities in Oklahoma, Kansas, and Illinois, and Helene made a loving home in each place for her husband and children. In 1980 Helene and her husband moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where they enjoyed retirement for 16 years.
Helene was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her daughter Carolyn Keating and her husband Don of Perry; her son Bob Franey and his wife Alice of Colorado Springs, Colorado; her daughter Beth Franey of Albuquerque; and her son Rick Franey and his wife Susan Silva of Bellingham, Washington. She also is survived by her grandchildren Kris Wyant, Pam Grantz, Sarah Ward, Luke Franey, Mary Rosebrough, Mark Rosebrough, Megan Rosebrough, Amy Rosebrough, Logan Franey, and Ella Franey. Helene is survived by her three great-grandchildren Riley Grantz, Audrey Ward and Addie Rosebrough.
A gathering will be held Monday, February 27 from 6:00 until 7:00 pm and a Rosary Prayer Service at 7:00 pm at Brown-Dugger Funeral Home in Perry. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Perry on Tuesday, February 28. A viewing will be held from 9:30 until 10:30 am on Saturday, March 4th at The Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 7500 Paseo del Norte, NE, in Albuquerque. Entombment will follow at 10:30 am.
