Helen Smith Mix, 89, of Perry, Oklahoma was the daughter of Daniel Durelle and Maude Mable Worcester Smith. She was born April 11, 1916 at Orlando, Oklahoma and died Thursday, January 12, 2006 at her home. Helen was a graduate of Orlando High School and Oklahoma AM College. On August 17, 1941, she and Francis Wayne Mix were married at the home of Maude Mix in Buffalo, Oklahoma. Helen taught school, worked as a Home Demonstration Agent and was a clerk for Swift and Company before retirement. She moved to the local area from Guymon, Oklahoma. Helen was a member of the First Christian Church and the Queen Esther Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was active in church work and enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, quilting and sewing. Helen was an avid OSU sports fan. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 14, 2006 at the First Christian Church in Perry. Rev. Martin Foster will officiate. Services are under the direction of Brown-Dugger Funeral Home of Perry, Oklahoma. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church Building Fund or Judith Karman Hospice in care of Brown-Dugger Funeral Home, 1010 N. 7th Street, Perry, Oklahoma 73077. Helen is survived by one son, Hal Avid Mix and his wife, Marilyn, of Dighton, Kansas; five grandchildren, Christina Allen and her husband, Mark, of Wichita, Kansas, Machelle Schomaker and her husband, Larry, of Fairland, Oklahoma, Dr. Eric Mix of Tulsa, Misti Linville and her husband, Jason, of Laverne, Oklahoma, and Sunny Han, of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; eight great-grandchildren, Seth and Shalinn Starkey and Sierra and Brody Schomaker, all of Fairland, Oklahoma, Matthew and Neil Allen, of Wichita, Kansas and Guy Fullmer and Owen Linville, of Laverne, Oklahoma; one brother, Earl Smith and his wife, Viola, of Orlando, Oklahoma; one sister, Leola Passow, of Topeka, Kansas; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Francis Wayne Mix, who died on October 6, 2003, Helen was preceded in death by one daughter, Michelene Mix Coggins, her parents and seven brothers and sisters.
