Harry Leland Adkins, 90, of Perry, Oklahoma was the son of Harry Adkins and Mona (Abrames) Adkins. He was born June 8, 1926, in Garber, Oklahoma and passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2017, at Perry Memorial Hospital.
Harry attended school in Hayward, Oklahoma, graduating in 1943. Harry enlisted during World War II as a young man. He joined the United States Navy in 1943 and served through 1946. He then joined the United States Air Force in 1946 and attended 2 years at Oklahoma A & M College (OSU) from 1949-1951. He served over 20 years in the military in the United States Air Force as an electrician and then a Systems Analyst-Programmer. He had an exemplary military career and received the TSG Air Force Commendation Medal with three bronze Oak Leaf Clusters. Harry retired from the United States Air Force in 1966 as a Technical Sergeant E-6. After retiring from the US Air Force, he joined the Air Force Reserves until 1976.
His hobbies included golf, bowling, target shooting, reading and spending time with his family.
Harry is survived by his sister Mona Fern Hise (98) of Perry, OK, and brother Elroy Adkins of Cabazon, CA. He is also survived by nephews Robert Hise (Perry), P. Roger Williamson (TX), L. Dale Adkins (OK), Kim Adkins (MI) and Gary Dale Adkins (OK); nieces Linda (Hise) Kaiser, Beverly (Hise) Gilley, and Gwen (Hise) Miller all of Oklahoma, and Shirley (Williamson) Kovar (CA). Survivors also include numerous great-nephews and great-nieces. He was preceded in death by both parents; two sisters: Evelyn Rose Adkins and Madge Williamson; four brothers: James Adkins, Kenneth Adkins, Clifton Adkins, and Gary Adkins.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, April 28, 2017, at Hayward Cemetery. Pastor Brett Nation, of Assembly of God Church in Perry, will officiate.
