Dorothy Helen Hayes, age 87, of Orlando, OK was born on February 26, 1931 to John and Clara Finnell. She passed away peacefully on Friday, July 20, 2018 in Perry, OK. She was raised and educated graduating from Orlando High School as salutatorian in 1949. Dorothy worked at Production Marketing Association. She was united in marriage to Loren Hayes on October 24, 1950 at Lucien United Methodist Church and celebrated 67 years of marriage. They raised two daughters, Connie and Elaine and one son, Keith. They lived east of Orlando, OK and then purchased a farm South of Lucien in 1956 where they currently live. Dorothy helped with farming, school activities and 4-H with the children.
Loren and Dorothy's hobbies included traveling with the Exchange Bank Prime 50 group on many bus tours. They started square dancing in the 1960's and continued until a few years ago. Over the years they were members of the Lucien Merri Makers and Enid Levis 'n' Lace square dance clubs. They served as officers in their local square dance club and also at the state and district level. They attended National Square Dance Conventions in Portland, OR; Memphis, TN; Birmingham, AL; and San Antonio, TX.
Survivors include her husband of the home, Loren Hayes; Children, Connie Guthrie and husband, Winford, of Pryor; Elaine Barton and husband, Randy, of Grapevine, TX ; and Keith Hayes and wife,Mary, of Orlando. Grandchildren are Daniel Guthrie and wife, Pam, of Stillwater; Amanda Hayes and fiancee, Clayton Sleeger, of Perry; and Eric Hayes and wife, Allison, of Oklahoma City. Dorothy had 2 great grand children; Lauren Guthrie and Chisum Spears. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Clara Finnell, one brother, Wilber Finnell and mother-in-law, Lela (Snyder) Hayes.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 23, 2018 at 10 AM at the Lucien United Methodist Church with pastor Kim Giles officiating. Burial will follow at the McGuire Cemetery East of Lucien. The visitation will be at Brown-Dugger Funeral Home in Perry on Sunday, July 22nd from 5:00-7:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to UMW (United Methodist Women) at Lucien United Methodist Church.
