Doris Jones, 86, of Stillwater, Oklahoma, formerly of Claremore and Perry, Oklahoma, was the daughter of James William and Della Blackwood Wix. She was born on November 26, 1922 in Claremore, Oklahoma and died Friday, February 6, 2009 at Westhaven Nursing Home in Stillwater. On June 26, 1942, Doris married Johnnie Jones in Claremore, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death in 1995. Doris was a member of the Redmeer Lutheran Church in Claremore, Oklahoma. Her hobbies included politics, she was very active in the Democratic Party in Rogers County, gardening, reading, playing pitch and working with the Claremore Humane Society. She enjoyed watching her OSU Cowboys. Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 12, 2009 at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Claremore, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Brown-Dugger Funeral Home in Perry. Memorials may be made to the Oklahoma State University Foundation in care of Brown-Dugger Funeral Home, 1010 N. 7th Street, Perry, Oklahoma 73077. Doris is survived by one daughter, JoAnn Appelbaum and her husband, Gene, of Perry, Oklahoma; two step-sons, Bill Jones and his wife, Jean, of Tulsa, Oklahoma and John R. Jones of Lawton, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren, Tracie Merril and her husband, Kurt, of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Terry Brandenburg and his wife, Amanda, of Enid, Oklahoma, Williams Jones of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Debbie Saunders and her husband, Lonnie, of West Yellowstone, Montana, John R. Jones, Jr., Mary Louise Durgin and Sandy Jones, all of Lawton, Oklahoma, Dr. Mark Appelbaum and his wife, Leslie, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Wayne Appelbaum of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and thirteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie Jones, one son, Dr. Robert Jones, one daughter-in-law, her parents, James and Della Wix, and three brothers, Al Wix, Cecil Wix and Harold Wix.
