Donald Raymond Queen Jr., age 65 of Newkirk, Oklahoma passed away Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at his daughter's home in Perry, Oklahoma. Don fought cancer valiantly for 10 years, vowing never to give up until his Lord called him home.
Don was born May 13, 1952 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Donald Raymond Sr. and Mildred Esther (Beeson) Queen. He grew up in Blanchard, Oklahoma where he graduated from A. J. Terrell High School in 1970. Don participated in several high school sports, but excelled at football. He preferred playing defensive end, where he is remembered for his veracity as a tackler.
Don attended Oklahoma State University, where he met his wife. In December of 1971, Don married Ann Schone. The couple reared two children, in the Pawnee, Oklahoma area. Don worked as a welder at Ditch Witch early in his career. For the past 22 years, Don worked for Glass trucking as a long-haul driver. He loved to fish for trout at Roaring River State Park in Cassville, Missouri, and to watch Oklahoma State University Football.
Survivors include one daughter Jennifer Queen of Perry, Oklahoma; one son Jack Queen and wife Debbie of Kansas; seven grandchildren Kayla Lyons, Lane Lyons, Tate Culp, Trigg Culp, Emma Queen, Josh Queen, and Caleb Queen; parents Donald Sr. and Mildred Queen of Sperry; three brothers Jim Queen of Tulsa, Greg Queen of Blanchard and Charles Queen of Bridgeport, Texas; one sister Paula Queen-Yanik of Yukon.
Don was preceded in death by his younger sister, Teresa Griffis. His family will mourn his passing, but they smile with joy at the thought of the welcoming that Don received in Heaven.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of the Brown-Dugger Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be held later this year, to coincide with Don's beloved Oklahoma State Cowboys football team.
