Sergeant First Class Denton Earl James, 89 of Perry, OK, passed away early Sunday morning July 9, 2017. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Brown-Dugger Funeral Home of Perry.
Denton was the son of Bill and Grace James of Oilton, OK. Denton and his twin brother Delton were born on March 3, 1928, in Creek County, OK, between Pole Cat and Dog Creek.
He is survived by his wife of almost 66 years, Helen Faye James. They were married at Medicine Lodge, KS. Denton served in the military for 20 years. He worked for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation for 15 years.
He is survived by 2 brothers, Bill James of Elk City, OK, JB James, of McComb, OK. 4 daughters, Sheryl James and Gene Brown of Palm Beach Garden, FL, Lorena and Craig Rouse, of Dodge City, KS, Patricia Bloom of Perry, OK, Brenda James of Perry, OK and 1 son David James of Lincoln, NE. 7 grandchildren, Kristopher Rouse, of Portsmouth, PA, Carlie Rouse of Dodge City, KS, Brandy And Jeremy Hise of Enid, OK, David Mitchell, of Stillwater, OK, Zerabeth Mitchell, of Perry, OK, Megan and Nathan Sandlin, of Garber, OK, Morgan Hearon, of Stillwater, OK. And 6 great grandchildren, Logan Hise, Grace Hise, Brandon Hearon, Ezira Hoggatt, Juleann Hearon, and Remington James Sandlin. There were many "adopted" children and grandchildren, as well as various other in laws and outlaws.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 6 brothers and 1 sister.
Denton loved and served the Lord through his years. He was deeply loved by all of those who knew him. He never failed to have a witty comment or tall tale to share.
Visitation at the Brown-Dugger Funeral Home, Perry will be on Wednesday, July 12 from 8:00 am until 8:00 pm with the family greeting friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Services will be Thursday, July 13 at 10:00 am in the Sumner Baptist Church with burial to follow at Grace Hill Cemetery with military honors.
