David Ankle, 83 of Perry died on the evening of February 21, 2017 at the Green Valley Nursing Home in Perry surrounded by loving family. He was born on February 17, 1934 in Beardsley, Kansas to Archibald and Gertrude (Elbert) Ankle. He married Vivian Roots on August 17, 1957 in Atwood, Kansas. She preceded him in death in 2014.
Mr. Ankle served in the US Army 1955-1957 and earned the rank of SP-4. David graduated from Fort Hayes State University with a Master of Science in Botany in 1963. Upon graduation, David worked for USDA in McAlester and Tishimingo Conservation Districts before taking a position in the Perry District in 1969. He served the public for over 30 years in Conservation at both the State and County levels.
He was an active member of the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus of Oklahoma where he received Knight of the Year in 2006, and the Elks Lodge of Perry along with numerous others associations with many awards and recognitions. David loved farming, working on old cars, gardening, collecting pecans by the bushel and messing with squirrels. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include two daughters, Sybil Rahn and spouse Glen of Perry; Clarinda Rackley and spouse Cameron of Claremore. Brothers - Alvin Ankle and spouse Monique of Myrtle Creek, Oregon and Steve Ankle of Monmouth, IL One sister Bertha Fikan of Colbey, KS. Grandchildren - Jerrica Bullock and spouse Scotty, Nathaniel, Victoria and Margaret Rackley and Rachel and Dakota Rahn. Great Grandchildren - Lyssa and Amelia.
Mr. Ankle was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Vivian; Brother, William Ankle; Brother-in-law, Darrel Fikan; three nephews, John Fikan, Doug Ankle and Albert Castaneda; Great Niece, Mandi Ankle.
There will be a time of gathering for friends and family at the Brown-Dugger Funeral Home from approximately 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, March 17. Rosary will also be held at 7:00 pm, Friday, March 17, 2017 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Perry, Oklahoma. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 10:00 am at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Perry, Oklahoma with Reverend Bala Raju Pudota as Celebrant. Inurnment will be in the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Cemetery, Perry, Oklahoma.
