Clay M. Powell Jr., 89, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma was the son of and one of 16 children born to Clay M. and Maude Bonnie Powell. He was born July 26, 1920 at Foss, Oklahoma and died Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at Grace Living Center in Edmond. The Powell family lived in the Elk City, Oklahoma community. He served his country in the United States Army from August 26, 1942 until December 21, 1945. He was an airplane maintenance technician with the B-29 Armament and served in the air offensive over Japan and in the Western Pacific. Clay received the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and the American Theater Service Medal. He achieved the rank of Tech Sergeant before he was honorably discharged from military service at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. On December 25, 1948, he and Florence M. Endres were married in the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cathedral in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. His wife preceded him in death on December 9, 2000. Clay was the owner-operator of a construction business. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 28, 2009 at The Catholic Parish of St. John the Baptist Church in Edmond, Oklahoma. Rev. John R. Metzinger will officiate. Committal services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 28, 2009 in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Cemetery at Perry, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Brown-Dugger Funeral Home of Perry. Clay is survived by one son, Michael C. Powell and his wife, Jacquelyn, of Yukon, Oklahoma; one daughter, Karen Kenworthy and her husband, Ken, Of Edmond, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren, Michelle Powell Danker and her husband, Charles, Saura Sahanaki, Michael C. Powell Jr., T.J. Powell, Ken Kenworthy III and his wife, Kate, Lauren Kenworthy Ascroft and her husband, Sean, Kylie Kenworthy and Karsten John-Paul Kenworthy; two great-granddaughters, Kassidy Kenworthy and Olivia Kenworthy; two sisters, Hazel Pierce of Tucson, Arizona and Chlorine Sellers of Tulsa, Oklahoma; one brother, Bendell Powell of Midwest City, Oklahoma and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Florence, Clay was preceded in death by his parents, Clay M. and Maude Powell; and 12 siblings.
