Carrie Lee Ledbetter, born on September 15, 1912 to James M. and Mary Ann Ledbetter, grew up in Alpine, Tennessee. She was the second youngest of thirteen children, seven brothers and five sisters. She is predeceased in death by both her parents and all of her brothers and sisters, her favorite niece Virginia Smith Mauk and one great-great granddaughter Abby Hargett. Carried died on Saturday, July 21, 2007 at the age of 94. Carrie graduated from Alpine High School in 1931. She worked as a laundress and seamstress until receiving her Bachelor of Science in Education from the Tennessee Polytechnic University. She also completed graduate work at the Peabody College of the University of Detroit in Michigan. She was a baptized member of the Alpine Presbyterian Church. The Governor of Tennessee, Prentice Cooper, recognized Carrie in 1940 as a leader in the Tennessee Home Food Supply Program for meritorious achievement in having grown 75 of all the food necessary for her family and livestock and for leadership in better living in the State of Tennessee. In 1942 she moved to Michigan and taught kindergarten for the Roseville Michigan School System until her retirement in 1976. After her retirement, she moved to New Port Richey, Florida until coming to Enid, Oklahoma in 1985. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2007 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Garber. Pastor Timothy Dorsch will officiate. Interment will be in Garber Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Dugger Funeral Home in Garber. Memorials may be made to the Zion Lutheran Preschool, Fairmont, Oklahoma in care of Dugger Funeral Home, P.O. Carrie is survived by four grandchildren, Teri Mauk Holle and husband, Michael of Enid, Oklahoma, Debi Mauk McGowan and husband, Michael, of East Lyme, Connecticut, Michael Mauk and wife, Trish, of Stillwater, Oklahoma and Larry Mauk and wife, Teresa, of Stillwater, Oklahoma; twelve great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
