Carl B. Hamm, 84, of Perry, Oklahoma was the son of Bert F. and Ethel Fitzpatrick Hamm. He was born October 31, 1924 at Jennings, Oklahoma and died Friday, March 13, 2009 at the Oklahoma Heart Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. His family moved to Oklahoma City in 1934. Carl attended Willard elementary school and Roosevelt junior high school and graduated from Central high school. He was inducted into the United States Army on February 24, 1943 and served his country until January 1, 1946 when he received his honorable discharge. During his military service he spent 24 months in the Southwest Pacific Theatre of Operations. Carl was a member of the medical detachment of the 543rd Engineer Boat and Shore Regiment of the 3rd Engineer Special Brigade. He participated in numerous combat landings in New Guinea and the Philippines. He was part of the Army of Occupation in Japan, having landed on the northern tip of Honshu Island 10 days after the Japanese surrender. He attended Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD under the Army Specialized Training Program. After his Army discharge, he attended Oklahoma City University and the University of Oklahoma. He held certificates of graduation from the American Institute of Banking and was a member and graduate of the first class of the Certified Commercial Lending School at the University of Oklahoma. Carl started his banking career at City National Bank Trust Company in Oklahoma City in 1947. He joined the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency in 1948 as an Assistant National Bank Examiner. He returned to commercial banking in 1951 and in 1957 he joined the staff of the First National Bank at Perry, Oklahoma. Carl retired as President and Chief Executive Officer on April 30, 1996 after 40 years of service to the bank. He was a member of the Oklahoma Bankers Association 50-year Club. He and Marjorie Wald were joined in holy matrimony on March 28, 1948 at Our Lady's Cathedral in Oklahoma City. Marjorie preceded him in death on April 2, 1996, one week after their golden wedding anniversary. On September 4, 1999, he and Kaye Abraham were joined in marriage. During his business career, Carl was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Oklahoma City. He was a member and past president of the Perry Rotary Club and the Perry Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees, served as a member of the State Advisory Council of the U.S. Small Business Administration and later as a member of the National Advisory Council of the SBA. He served eight years as a member of the State of Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board, first as an appointee of Governor Henry Bellmon and then as an appointee of the State Court of Criminal Appeals. He served two terms as chairman of the Pardon and Parole Board. He was also appointed to the Board of Regents of Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa by Governor Frank Keating. Carl was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. A rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Perry, Oklahoma. Father Thomas Dowdell will officiate. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday, March 19, 2009 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Abbot Lawrence Stasyszen, O.S.B. St. Gregory's University, Shawnee, Oklahoma will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Brown-Dugger Funeral Home. Carl is survived by his beloved wife, Kaye; two daughters, Carla and her husband, Dennis Brand, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Therese and her husband, Dr. James Goodwin, of Edmond, Oklahoma; two sons, Richard Hamm and his wife, Patty, of Amarillo, Texas and John Hamm and his wife, Debbie, of Atlanta, Georgia; 10 grandchildren, Wade Brand and his wife, Amy, of Denver, Colorado, Dennette Summerlin and her husband, JT, and Todd Brand, all of Shawnee, Oklahoma; Ryan Hamm of Amarillo, Texas, Reid Hamm and Ramsey Hamm of Los Angeles, California, Jessica Hawkins, William and Patrick Goodwin, all of Edmond, Oklahoma and Abigail Hamm of Atlanta, Georgia; four great-grandchildren, Tanner Bare, of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Lauren Brand and Avery Brand, both of Denver, Colorado and Iasiah Goodwin of Edmond, Oklahoma; two step-daughters, Debi Smith of Miami, Oklahoma and Valerie Villarreal of Plano, Texas; one step-son, Vincent Abraham and his wife, Amy, of Perry, Oklahoma; six step-grandchildren, Matthew Madden and his wife, Luksana, of Weiden, Germany, Dr. George Madden and his wife, Cari, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Erin Smith of Miami, Oklahoma, Heather Burleson and her husband, Garrett, of Magnolia, Texas, Matthew Villarreal of Stillwater, Oklahoma and Austin North of Stillwater, Oklahoma; six step great-grandchildren, Chelsey Summerlin, Shaun Summerlin, Ryan Summerlin, Brandon Summerlin, all of Chandler, Oklahoma, Wesley Madden and Mia Madden of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one sister, Lila Rains of Edmond, Oklahoma and one brother, Rev. Delbert Hamm of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. In addition to his first wife, Marjorie, Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Ethel Hamm, two brothers, two sisters and his beloved daughter, Anita Hamm.
