It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Buddy Page Jones. He left this world peacefully on Tuesday, October 3rd, at the age of 72.
Buddy Page Jones was born on April 13, 1951, to Lloyd and Mary Lou Jones, in Guthrie, Oklahoma. He grew up in Perry, Oklahoma with his two siblings MaryBeth Jones Fowler and Kevin Jones along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was successful as a Perry Maroon wrestler and graduated from Perry High School in 1969. Buddy attended the University of Oklahoma and Central State University. He served in the National Guard for six years. Buddy married Teresa Jones, the love of his life, on June 28th, 1973. They made their home in Perry, OK and recently celebrated fifty years of marriage. Together they raised four children and welcomed nine grandchildren. Buddy worked with his father at Lloyd Jones Well Service and JJ Farms raising Quarter Horses and Thoroughbreds.
Growing up he followed in his father’s footsteps and fell in love with horses. He and his mother both told stories of how he wished he could be a horse. He continued his involvement with horses until his final days. He had a special way with all animals. He rescued countless strays and consistently donated to charities dedicated to care for animals. He fed not only horses, strays, and his pets; but also cared for wild animals that visited his yard.
As a former athlete, Buddy was passionate about athletics. He volunteered coaching youth sports for all his children. He served as an announcer for little league football where he showed off his wit and humor with the creation of fun nicknames for the players. Buddy was a hardcore fan of all things OU. He faithfully cheered on OU men’s and women’s athletes in multiple sports. In addition, he made several donations in support of various men’s and women’s OU athletics programs. He was also a consistent donor in support of the Oklahoma Special Olympics.
He was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, Oompah, uncle, and friend. Buddy was strong- willed, generous, and had an uncanny sense of humor. He touched the lives of many with his kindness, generosity, silliness, and unwavering love. He will be remembered for his compassion, affinity for nature, wit, tall tales, and laughter.
Buddy is survived by his wife Teresa Jones, daughter Angie Jones of Perry, daughter Jennifer Shields and her husband Jayson Shields of Perry, son Brian Jones and his wife Kristy Jones of McLoud, and daughter Michael Anne Pentz and her husband Nick Pentz of Brockport, New York, sister Mary Beth Jones Fowler and her husband Eddie Fowler of Amarillo, Texas, brother Kevin Jones of Monroe, Utah and nine grandchildren Bakker, Addison, and Maebry Shields, Ella, Wyatt, and Adelaide Pentz, Karissa Jones, and Gracin and Olivia Jones and Father-in-law Jim Thompson who will forever cherish his memory.
