Billy Blackie Watkins, 80, of Garber, Oklahoma, was the son of Arville Douglas and Effie Faye James Watkins. He was born on March 22, 1933 in Iowa Park, Texas and passed away Thursday, November 21, 2013 at his residence in Garber, Oklahoma. After high school he served his country in the United States Army. Blackie did a tour during the Korean War and was awarded the National Defense Medal, the Korean Service Medal, a United Nations Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Blackie Married Venus Prather on July 13, 1952 in Raton, New Mexico and from this union three daughters were born, Bille Gayle, Stephany Irene and Dana. His true passion was welding, he was a lifelong welder who specialized in pipelines. He enjoyed driving his school bus for over 20 years for the Garber School District. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching football especially his OU Sooners. He enjoyed old country music and enjoyed singing and dancing the jitterbug. Whenever he got a chance you could find him traveling in his camper especially to his favorite place, Branson, Missouri. When he was not traveling he could be found building and racing stock cars at Enid Speedway, but most of all Blackie loved spending time with his family and friends. Blackie was a member of the Garber Lions Club. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 25, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Garber, Oklahoma. Pastor Tom LeGrand will be officiating. Interment will be in the Garber Cemetery in Garber, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Dugger Funeral Home in Garber, Oklahoma. Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, November 24, 2013 at Dugger Funeral Home, Garber, Oklahoma. Memorials may be made to the Circle of Love Hospice in care of Dugger Funeral Home, P.O. Box 66, Garber, Oklahoma 73738. Blackie is survived by his companion, Peggy Mason of Garber, Oklahoma three daughters, Billie Gayle Leader, Stephany Irene Wilson and Dana Foster and her husband, Ken all from Enid, Oklahoma two granddaughters, Shannon Poindexter of Ponca City, Oklahoma, Jamie Leader of Enid, Oklahoma two greatgrandsons, Chris Poindexter and Nathan Poindexter both of Ponca City, Oklahoma one sister, Arvella Anderson and her husband, Edward of Amarillo, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, Arville and Faye Watkins four brothers, Jackie, Doug, James and Bobby Gale.
