Billy Joe Chrz, aka "Bill" to many and "Jody" to his mother, passed away on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at the age of 89. Bill was born October 11, 1929, on the land that was established as the original home place of the Chrz family, in 1893.
As a young adult, Bill attended school, and left early to serve his American duty in the United States Army. He also met Margaret Corine Peters. Bill and Corine married on May 27, 1950 and were married for 68 years.
Throughout life, Bill proved that a man's livelihood is merely dictated by the direction of his own doubt. Bill had no doubt in his ability and went on to gain interest as a man of many trades, starting with Steven Oil Company as a truck driver and Gulf Oil Company as a seismographer. Then he served in the United States Army through the Korean conflict. After he returned home he worked for Geophysical Services Inc. as a seismographer, then Western Electric as a machinist, and eventually landed at Tinker Air Force Base, as an electronics technician. Bill loved a challenge, and enjoyed providing for his family through the skills of his many talents. Out of all his responsibilities in life, his favorite time on what he considered to be his perfect job in life, were the hours he cherished being a husband, a dad, a grandpa, and a great-grandpa.
The careers that Bill chose in life were simply a means to provide a good life for his family, and those that would accommodate his time with Corine, Ranay, Bruce and Donna. While at Tinker, Bill's job included scheduled traveling. Bill's scheduled traveling seemed to always parallel with every break that was scheduled during any given part of a school year, when his children were free, and his family could go. Bill experienced many corners of the world, and it meant everything to share the world together with his family. Later in life, following retirement, Bill enjoyed working at the Pottawatomie County Sheriff's Office as a jailor, and wrapped up his experience in the workforce as a bus driver for Dale and Perry Public Schools.
Above all, Bill will always be known, and remembered as a lifelong farmer and rancher, and his 17 years as a volunteer at the International Finals Youth Rodeo, held annually in Shawnee.
