Betty Long

Betty Jo Long, 94, of Garber, Oklahoma was the daughter of Ruea Althea Milton and I.T. Milton of Garber. She was born May 17, 1922 in Ripley, Oklahoma and died at her home in Garber, Wednesday, July 6, 2016.

Services will be held at the Garber Christian Church on Monday, July 11, at 10 a.m. Rev. Doyle Newsom will officiate. Interment will be at the Garber Cemetery under the direction of the Brown-Dugger Funeral Home.

She graduated from Garber High School in 1939 and was Valedictorian of her class. During the war she worked as secretary to the general at Vance Air Force Base. She married Halsey H. Long in 1945 and they later owned and operated Long's Ford of Garber. She was a strong supporter of Garber school athletic and band programs. She was a Charter member of the Athenian Club, a member of Eastern Star and a member of the Garber Christian Church.

She loved antiquing and owned and operated "Remember When" an antique store in Garber. She loved reading, traveling, gardening, bird watching and spending time with her family. She particularly loved going to Detroit Lakes, Minnesota and did so for over 70 years. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren continue that legacy.

She made every holiday a special event for her children and grandchildren creating wonderful memories we will all cherish.

Betty Jo is survived by two sons, Terry Weber and wife Connie of Oklahoma City, and Tracy Long of Garber, daughters Debbie Hays and husband Larry of Hennessey, Leslie McIntire and husband Kevin of Grapevine, Texas and grandchildren Lara Koch and husband Brent of Tulsa, Brandon Hays and wife Kacy of Edmond, Lauren Hunt and husband Brian of Seoul, South Korea, Kaelen McIntire and Luke McIntire of Grapevine, Haley Long of Edmond and Ryan Long of Garber. She has three great grandchildren, Abie Koch, Kalle Hays and Zoey Hays. She was preceded in death by her husband Halsey, their son Jon Long and her grandson Jeff Weber.
