Beatrice Bea Murphy, 97, of Perry, Oklahoma, was the daughter of Luther and Hattie Wheeler Sullivan. She was born on August 26, 1911 in DeQueen, Arkansas and died Monday, January 5, 2009 at Green Valley Nursing Home in Perry, Oklahoma. Bea was a graduate of Vanoss High School and attended East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma. On July 10, 1939, Bea married Thomas J. Murphy in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death in 1984. Bea was a Railway Express Agent until she retired in 1976. She was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church, the Ada Baptist Quilters and the Center Homemakers Group. She enjoyed quilting and gardening. Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at Memorial Park Cemetery in Ada, Oklahoma. Rev. Rusty Fuller will officiate. Services are under the direction of Brown-Dugger Funeral Home in Perry. Memorials may be made to the Trinity Baptist Church, Building Fund in care of Brown-Dugger Funeral Home, 1010 N. 7th Street, Perry, Oklahoma 73077. Bea is survived by two daughters, Deloris Layne of Perry, Oklahoma, and Bonnie Braley of Enid, Oklahoma; one stepdaughter, Juanita Beller of Ada, Oklahoma; two stepsons, Charles Murphy of Plano, Texas and Paul Murphy of Ada, Oklahoma; fourteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Murphy, one stepson, Jay T. Murphy, three brothers and four sisters.
